my new way to eat

I have found my new way to eat, and it is tapas. :)

Have you ever been to a tapas bar? We went to one last night for the first time and it was SO cool. First off, the restaurant doubled as an art gallery for local artists. There was art hanging all over the walls. If it wasn't so expensive I would have bought some--it was really good stuff. But the coolest part was the food.

In tapas you get little bitty servings of food. So instead of eating a big entree, and hoping you like it, you get lots of little things and share them around the table. It would be a great thing to do with a group of friends because then you could get everything.

We had so much: duck quesedillas, spicy beef empanadas, these incredible roasted pears and so many other things. I can't write much more because I'm on rented time in a little internet cafe but OMG it was so good. Check out for more. So good.

Oh, and the pitcher of margaritas had me under the table by my second little cup. Fresh made! Not from mix!

Definitely hitting the gym today...left the place SO SO stuffed...bad! :)

next time i'm staying in a hotel with donut delivery

I am going to the gym.

It's right downstairs. I'm already in gym clothes. My hair is up. I just need socks and sneakers. It's right downstairs.

I need to go. I want to see 160s when I get home. I have 5 more hours til I have to pick up hubby from the thingie. Plenty of time to work out, shower, maybe even swim. And take a nap, if I really wanted.

But I really don't deserve a nap right now--I haven't done anything!

And dinner! How am I going to enjoy tonight's big, fancy, birthday dinner if I'm not hungry because all I did all day was sit around drinking coffee, blogging, and napping?!!

But oh, that bed. With its mattress pad, and the down duvet. And the big fluffy inviting...

No! Remember the dinner! Remember that huge piece of cheesecake from last night! Remember the cheese, and the antipasto, and the beef, and the sushi, and the bread dipped in oil! Remember?!?!

OK. I'm going. Right now. I'm lacing up my shoes and going. Here I go!! Here I go.

eating on vacation, or, bring on the margaritas!

Well here I am in Florida, spending lots of money on shopping and eating while my dear hubby goes to his conference all this week. It's Tuesday now and we've been here since Saturday afternoon. We've been to Disney-MGM studios, SeaWorld, the Hard Rock Cafe, and a bunch of little eateries. Between all the walking around theme parks (the walking! ooh, the walking!! and the sweating! 95 degrees, people! Who goes to Florida in June?!) and the eating of good food and drinking of yummy alcoholic beverages (it's the bizarrest thing for those of you who live in MA or any other state where blue laws rule the earth: they just let you walk around! with alcohol! in the streets!) I think (I hope!!) I'll have lost weight by the end of the week. Of course, if I kept my promise to myself to be at the hotel fitness center every day that might be more certain, but...well, there are just too many other things to do.

Like get my nose pierced!!

Yup, I did. But that's got nothing to do with weight-loss so you can visit my other blog (you can get there through my profile, yo) if you want to read more about that. I will say, however, that I now have a near-constant urge to pick my nose.

OK, on that note--now more about the FOOOOOD. ;)

I have been so good at eating when I'm hungry and not because I'm bored or because it's just there or because it's something I really really want. Like Sunday night, after we'd walked around MGM all day (fun!) and we were starving, we went to Hard Rock (which totally, well, rocked) and we had two drinks (pretty much my limit if I want to walk straight) which were soooo yumm. I had a pomegrante margarita and um...shoot I forgot the other drink. Some kind of martini I think. And I had an 8oz steak that was soo good but too big to finish and broccoli which looked really good (nothing goes with steak like broccoli IMO) but wasn't cooked enough (which sucked--you know how you're like, MM! Vegetables! which doesn't happen very often but then you bite the vegetables and they're disappointing and you're like Hm, shoulda had the giant bread basket instead!) and what was I saying? Oh and then I was too full for dessert. Now, I normally would go ahead and eat dessert anyway because hello! Hard Rock Brownie Sundae is supposed to be the best! but I didn't. And I survived.

Part of that is due to the fact that there is a Cold Stone Creamery somewhere around here that we are going to re-find. We found it the other day and just stepped in and OMG the smeelllll...Cold Stone Creamery smells like I would imagine Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory to smell.

So yeah, I still need work on the "stopping when satisfied"--if I do manage to stop eating before I'm full I just get hungry again ten minutes later, like I stop too soon because I'm afraid to overdo it--but the "eating only when hungry" part? Doing pretty good there!

Today I had coffee at BadAss coffee. It was not so much a coffee: it was actually hot white and dark chocolate. Yum. Gave me a stomach ache @.@ but it was good. And every morning for breakfast I've had an omelet with peppers, onions and cheese, yogurt with berries and toasted oats and almonds, and toast or potatoes. Always just a little of everything. Then on my way out from breakfast I grab a banana, a NutraGrain bar, and a water, and that's lunch.

OK, this has seriously got to be one of my more convoluted, crazy, boring posts but you'll just have to forgive me because I'm excited!! I'm in Florida! :)

(Bear with me while I try to type a post using hubby's dying wireless keyboard...)

So the hubby and I are leaving for Florida on Saturday.

(Cheers and the sound of the bubbly popping open.)

It's been so long since we've had a vacation together, just me and him. It's not exactly a vacation for him--more like a professional conference, actually--but still! We get a hotel room! To ourselves!! For a week and a half!!! I could die.

Now the only hard part is making sure we don't gain back all the weight we've worked so hard to take off recently. We both just bought new, smaller, warm-weather clothes so it would be really nice to stay in them for a while. Then, when we don't fit them anymore, it'd better be because they're too big. :)

Hey, just about one month til my Zumba certification class. I sold my dvds and cd on ebay to save up for it, and now I'm going through withdrawl. S'all good though, cuz they give you another set when you get certified. Then for only $30 a month I get new stuff all the time! That's so cool, I don't even care that I'll probably only make $30 a month! :)

Anyone need Zumba instructors? I do private lessons! Located in MA, pending certification July 2007. ;)

Hey guess what!* There's a Zumba certification workshop near me in July!! And I'm going to be there!

Well, I haven't actually registered yet. I have to save up some money, sell some stuff on ebay, including my Zumba dvds, since I'll get those at the workshop anyway. And hopefully they won't be sold out by that time.

But I fully intend to register. And when I do I'll be so stinkin excited I'll just scream!! :) Such a dork, I know.

So um...I'm not too thrilled about being the fattest girl going though. Gotta do something about that. And I need to practice. Everyday!! And quit buying junk food. Because I don't think the two pints of Ben & Jerry's, the package of Chips Ahoy, and the bag of peanut butter Hershey's Kisses are really helping the cause, y'know?

So anyway...I'm stuck at 170. (Speaking of junk food...) Every time I get to this point--and I've been here several times, approximately once after each kid--I have a hard time getting over the 170 bump and into the 160s. I know it must be a mental thing--it's not like my 5-foot-2 frame likes being 170, fer cryin out loud--but it happens every stinkin time! I go down, down, out of 180s (which I'm never in for too long, thank God) through the 170s, and then Bam! I'm up against a wall.

A wall made of ice cream Starbucks Venti Soy Vanilla Sugar Free Lattes and bagels with cream cheese and pizza and brownies and birthday cake and peanut butter Hershey's Kisses.

But I am thankful for the progress I've made so far, and I don't mean just about the weight alone. I can make it through a whole hour-long Zumba class without stopping. I can fit into things I haven't fit into since before I got pregnant with Bek. I feel good, and strong. My "binge days" are what I might have once considered a normal eating day, fer cryin. I have my self-confidence back, and people notice. I don't feel invisible anymore, which was just the worst feeling.

So I'm keeping all that in mind and trying to imagine it all multiplying as I push ahead past the bump and into 160-ville. Y'all come with, k? ;)

*Promise I'll stop starting posts with Guess What!! and come up with something a little more creative. :) Hey...I should post pictures of me soon. 15 lbs. gone has got to show up, right?! ;)

yay me

Hey guess what! I know I haven't been here for a while but in the time I've been gone I've gotten down to 170.5!! w00t! Don't ask me how I do it...I think it has something to do with the hot weather...I eat when it's cold and don't when it's hot. Oh, and now I'm sick so everything tastes like phlegm. YUM! But, yay!

And I think I'm going to start a little note on the sidebar that says how much money I have saved towards my Zumba certification. At this rate, pretty soon I'll be able to wear the skimpy little outfits the girls wear in the videos! OK, well, maybe not. :)
